Is there a big difference in speeds of processing on these???

Im using cheapies but after today they seemed a little slow and gluggish....
 
Yep, you get what you pay for when it comes to memory cards.

I'd go for at least 400x cards but if you shoot lots of bursts you might want to look higher.
 
I buy Sandisk Extreme or Extreme Pro. Don't know the hundredx speed of them but they're rated at 60MB/s and 90MB/s. Check how fast your camera can write to memory cards and take it from there. :)
 
It depends on what type of shooter you are, I've happily used 133x or 20Mb cards on my 7D for years, it can cope with the new Firmware upgrade and rattle off 20 shots at 8fps, before having to pause for the buffer to flush. If you however have a pressing need to machine gun subjects in quick succession then a faster card may be required. I also found the 133X also works fine for full HD video as well.
 
I bought a stack of 16GB Duracell 600x CF cards and they've performed flawlessly so far. Nice and fast as well, they quote 90MB/s but this is read speed, although I did some tests using CrystalDiskMark and the write speeds were also fast. I did a thread on it all somewhere.

Although I'm now using an updated card reader so I should probably re-do the tests but I was comparing both the Sandisk and Duracell on the same card reader, with the Duracell being faster so presumably if I had a card reader that could read faster then they'd both go up proportionately.

Yes and different makes can also make a difference.

I tend to use Sandisk or Lexar cards and have been very happy with them. As cameras get quicker and quicker and depending on what you do then as Ken says, you need to be getting a card thats fast enough to keep up
