CF Reader - Which one?

I've a Sandisk imagemate reader and am very pleased with it. What card have you got ?

I have the Sandisk Imagemate too, be careful the cheaper one doesn't take CF cards

My daughter bought me one for Fathers Day and I didn't realise given that it said multi card reader, got the correct one before she realised, didn't want to hurt the kid's feelings

Anyone want to buy a non CF type? :)

I use the same SandDisk 8GB Extreme cards and have tried three card readers and these are the speeds I'm getting on my ageing laptop and my netbook respectively:

SanDisk Extreme USB2.0 Reader - 11Mb/s : 15Mb/s

SanDisk USB2.0 ImageMate Multi Card Reader - 10Mb/s : 20Mb/s

Lexar Professional ExpressCard CompactFlash Reader - 12Mb/s : N/A

I think the readers and cards are capable of much higher transfer rates but it's my laptop that is the weakest link. I was wondering whether a Firewire 800 reader through a Firewire 800 to ExpressCard adapter may be quicker, I don't want to risk spending that kind of money though.

Another Sandisk Imagemate here. My only gripe is it keeps falling off the stupid little magnetic stand. Apart from that is fine.

Get a UDMA. and make sure your CF cards are UDMA too. If you want fast downloads that is. Because I download at a wedding for making a slideshow I need them to be as quick as I can. Especially when my colleague uses a ruddy 5DII with it's monsterous files sizes. It really is a pest as they take almost twice as long as the D3s and D700 files ;)

Ali, ask your colleague to use the smaller Raw option. Should make them around the same size as yours. I can remember Dave Nunn saying he uses this method on the SWPP forum last year. http://www.davenunnstudios.co.uk/

Use the Sandisk Imagemate 12-in-1 V4, works on its stand upright, fallen over, hanging, whatever and never had any problems.
