I have been investing in some new CF cards, they are 800X rated at arround 90Mb/min. UMDA6.

Would like to buy a new reader as my old one seems to be slow.

Now I was wondering what is the best fasted to get.

USB2 or Firewire or eSATA?

I would like an external one.

Any advice would be great.

Cheers,
Will

I have the Sandisk Extreme Firewire reader and it's very fast, I also have the usb one for my laptop as the firewire is compatible, the usb is slower in my experience

In terms of speed - USB 2 ≈ Firewire 400 < Firewire 800 < eSATA

Check which Firewire you have before you spend a lot of money on a Firewire reader. Only really worth it if you have FW800. Obviously eSATA would be the best - but I can't find an eSATA reader. I'm awaiting an Express Card CF reader. It'll be interesting to compare it to the others. Transfer speed should be > FW400. But that's only really useful if you're using a laptop.

For FW - Sandisk
USB2 - Lexar UDMA reader

Cool thanks for the info.

I have two FW800 ports on my PC, so that might be a good idea. I have seen a few eSATA readers too, and I have two of them too.

for potential max transfer speed of the interface but I'm sure that the chip that they are using will also come into it & throughput will probably be somewhat lower than the interface itself is capable of.
