Hi, I was thinking the other day that the ability of the 1D series to write to two cards simultaneously is something that is cited as a bonus feature of these cameras. I shoot the occassional wedding and find it reassuring to have the two card slots to create backups of all images.

However, I'm currently toying with the dilemma of having to get rid of one of my bodies (5D1, 60D, 1D3) and not being sure which has to go. All clearly have pros and cons.

Anyway, to my point, is the dual card facilitty REALLY a such bonus and do people EVER lose data through corrupted cards nowadays ?

Would love to hear what others think on this matter.

Thanks for the reply. Made the mistake of getting a cheap card reader whilst on offer from Tesc*s a few years ago. It only cost a fiver but fell apart the first time I used it.

It's like house insurance. Most people never need to claim but when you have to you're so glad that you had it.

With cameras, if you ditch the 1D, your best insurance would be to use smaller capacity cards [for cost saving] and change them frequently.
 
Your approach to dual cards will be dictated by how much you'd lose by one going bad on you. Amateur tog -> probably no worries. If you're getting paid for shooting -> it'd probably be high on my list as a real good thing to have...
