CF to PCMIA Adaptor

I have just found a CF adapter that fits my laptop...It's a CF to PCMCIA

I plugged it into the pcm slot and inserted a CF card but the transfer speed is really slow... Is this standard or is there something I need to do to speed things up ?
 
Really? it copys a full 8gb card for me in around 7/8 minutes i though that was pretty quick?

Sure its PCMCIA and not CardBus or ExpressCard?

PCMCIA specification 2.1 allows for speeds up to 20Mbps.

For comparison

USB 1.1 is 12Mbps

USB 2.x high speed is 480Mbps (theoretical).
