CF to SD Converter

Hi all, my setup has changed so now need to use CF cards, are there any downsides to using an SD to CF converter in my 5D and use my SD cards or should I move to an actual CF card?

Move to cf and avoid the adapter, they are very very slow to write to the card, even with a top spec SD inside it, I fell into this trap and quickly realised my mistake, invest in a couple of decent cf cards.

Got 2 different converters for my 5D2, never has any write speed problems. The Sandisk Extreme SD allows the camera to clear the buffer much faster than the 7dayshop Class 10 card.

So I'd say get the converter and save your cash on CF cards, CF readers and use your existing SD cards.

What make is the converter you have, I use sandisk extreme pro SD cards, but the converter cannot write to the SD card at full speed?

Reading reviews, it seems whether you can achieve high write speed is a bit random, depends on the camera.

But I can say with confidence the first one works at SD card's fastest speed in a 5D mk2. Haven't tested the 2nd one, as that's for eye-fi and backup in-case my primary adaptor breaks.

If it works for you, you are lucky. Newer DSLRs don't support these convertors any more. All SD-CF convertors I've seen ale compact-flash type II (because they need to have physically higher profile than regular cards).

I think 5d mark II supported Compact Flash type II, but 5d mark III and newer is CF type I only.

In Nikon world I think D300 was the last DSLR to support type II.

It is always to avoid using convertors like that. For me reliability first when it comes to flash cards.
