Hi,
Not sure yet but I might have a problem either with d800 or 105DC...
when AF focuses on distant object, camera - or lens, makes sound different to one that it does the other way around ... when it focuses to a object closer to camera, it sounds just right.

need to check on other lenses to make sure...

do your bodies make same noise both ways ??
am pretty sure mine used to...

need to hurry as I think my 105DC warranty expires any day now...and d800 came back from repair of AF not too long ago as well...

Please check your cameras and advise...it is highly possible that I am going :cuckoo:

On my screw-driven AF lenses and D7000, the sound is the same both ways.

Not sure how entirely helpful that is as a non-105DC and non-D800 owner, but there we are.

dont think there are many 105DC owners with D800 around here ;)
thanks for input as I would like to see as many replies as possible

I think I might travel to Grays today...better safe than sorry...

There's one here.....

Sounds the same to me.

However, I've had an issue with a lens in the past that could focus close up but not far away. It was something to do with the clutch (IIRC they told me that at longer distances something slightly different happens inside an Af-D lens). It's possible yours is on the way out :(

sounds same both ways you say...

warranty expired on 4th May :bang:
so need to decide what to do next...
am planning trip to Fixation anyway so I might ask their technicians to have a hear ;)

Pretty much. The pitch changes very slightly as it accelerates but that's due to moving the glass a long way not really a different sound.

Can you post a .WAV?

a wav...not sure if I could manage to record that..will give it a go from mobile later..no where near camera at the moment :)
