Hi

I'm looking for a new camera.

I am stuck with the choice between:

Pentax K-R or Sony A55

Anybody suggest which one I should go for?
 
Why are you changing camera if you don't know what you want to change it to? And why change brand too?

:plusone: :shrug: it dosn't make a lot of sense to change system unless there is a reason for the change :thinking:
 
What do they offer that the D3000 doesn't?
 
both have a Video option, built in image stabaliser, and larger MPs.

Granted nikon has a large range of lenses but the Sony has too, and cheaper at that.

Both have more FPS.

I like trying to photograpgh motorsport, preferably forestry rallying
 
Well if you want a new camera then judging by what you have said you want then Sony A55 will be probably the best camera for you. As it meets all your needs, I can vouch for the model down from the A55, the A33, thats a fantastic camera as far as I'm concerned. Although make sure your happy using an EVF (some people hate it).

Don't forget the A57 is coming out soon so you may want to check that out and hold fire for that.
 
Why do you need more FPS?

I have 10 fps at my disposal but I rarely use it. I prefer to time my shot and some of my best images are a single timed shot and not from a "spray and pray" burst.

It would be interesting to here the views of some of the resident Sport pros.
 
I'm not a sports pro or anything but if your shooting motorsport (which is the only sport I ever really shoot) then at least a decent number of FPS does without doubt will help, unless you have exceptional panning skill then being able to shoot a load of frames in a pan rather than one you will increase your chance of getting a sharp shot by miles.

As I said I don't know about other sports but any times you need to pan a good FPS will help a lot (of course its not down to just FPS though!), just make sure you get a quick memory card.
 
I'm not the "spray and pray" type, but when I'm shooting Motorsport having the option of a maximum 6.5 fps at your disposal is a benefit. I generally have the camera set to high fps and fire 2 or 3 shots off in very quick succession depending on where I am and as I've 6.5 fps available, these 2 or 3 shots happen very quick, so you stand a good chance of catching what your after.

I've had my 7D for about 6 or 7 months so far and only ever used burst mode once, just to make sure it worked. I've shot all sorts of sport with both a 7D and a 5DMkII and never needed burst mode.
 
Save your money and buy some decent glass. Get that sorted first then think about upgrading your body at a later date, but only when you find there are features lacking from yours you need.

My nephew owns a D40 he has had for 5-6 years. He and I regularly go to watch motorsport at Brands Hatch and he has managed to photograph some cracking shots, easily on a par with those I took with my 40D and 100-400mm L!

Glass first, body second wouold be my advice.
