Changing from 40D to 5D?

I have always wanted to try FF and I am considering changing my 40D to a 5D, mark 1. It would be used for landscape and portraits.

Whats your thoughts? My main draw back is most of my lenses bar two are EF-S. The main lens I would use on this would be my Canon 50mm F1.4 until I can afford to go for either 17-40 L or 24-70 or similar, can anyone comment what the 50mm would be like?

The 40D I am changing is my back up camera.

Sounds like a great plan to me. Buy carefully and you'll have a terrific camera that you can sell again at no loss if you don't get on with it. 5D + 50mm f1.4 is a wonderful combination.
 
I only imagine buying one len's, so its six and two threes as I have a len's I can use on it already and I have lenses for my crop body too.
 
The 50mm f1.4 is my main lens on the 5D.
