Changing head on Giottos tripod

I've got a Giottos MTL 9351B tripod which came with a standard MH 5011 head and have bought a new Redsnapper ball head but can't get the Giottos one off, I've used an alan key to remove the four screw things which connects the tripod with the head but it still doesn't come off. Any suggestions?

Alex, you need to unscrew the head too. The four screws just stop the head from spinning
 
I've removed the screw's which connect the head to the adjustable column. I can't twist the column from the head, it's stuck, maybe I'm not strong enough :lol:
 
Errm, not sure what else to recommend apart from maybe having a friend hold the head, whilst you twist the legs :shrug:
