Chanonry Point is magic

Nice shot.

Been there a few times, but the dolphins weren't jumping about for us unfortunately. Won't stop me going again though.

only been one but never seen any jumping maybe wrong time of day
need to look at tide tables
when is best time to see them high or low time or in-between ?

Best time is reportedly an hour after low tide but it's obviously not as simple as that with wild animals

We went at low tide on Sunday evening (7pm approx) and dolphins were just arriving, they were gone by the recommended 1 hour afterwards - but more appeared at about 10pm - there wasn't any jumping though and probably only about five dolphins

We arrived at low tide again on Monday morning (7.30) and stayed until 11.15am - it was a warm sunny day but no dolphins appeared at all - five minutes after we left they were aparently jumping all over the place - couple we met showed us their video of it.

Monday night (7.45pm) there were a good few dolphins and there was activity most of the time from then until it got too dark to photograph them - nothing spectacular though.

Tuesday morning (8 30am tide) was wet - drizzle from then until about 10.30am - no dolphins on arrival but they arrived right on schedule an hour after low tide (9.30) - activity was quite muted at first but by 10.15 the juveniles were jumping and playing and there was still plenty of feeding activity and the odd jump when we left at noon - we (and the locals) reckoned that at one point we were within fifty yards of upwards of 20 dolphins.

It was an absolutely magical morning despite the rain.

The secret is patience - if you stay around long enough you will probably see dolphins - if you just turn up for an hour then it's total luck if you do.

The whole experience was so enjoyable, although it was only on our last morning that the dolphins really put on a show, that we will go back at some point and stay for longer - and this time we'd pretty much live on the beach.
