Hi,

I take pics of motocross every weekend, and i sell a fair amount of them.I normaly i just get them printed out and post them away,

but some people ask me to email them,or put them on a disc for them.

which i then get confused on what price i should charge them..

the biggest size i print is 12x18 which i charge for 25 euro..

now, if i were to email someone the ful size pic, should i charge 25€ ??? cause thats what i would make if i were to print it?

thanks for any advice

Possibly more actually.
If you send the file they can reprint them as often as they like can't they.
Even if you ask them not to, they will anyway.

what cyclone says is true.

If you go t oa photo studio to get shots of you and your family you pay for that image printed.

now if you ask for it in cd/dvd it will cost more as the studio know that you will reproduce more than one copy of it

I've been thinking about this too.

If you send the file they can reprint them as often as they like can't they.

The reality is though that rider 199 just wants a picture for himself, maybe his Mum, and for his facebook profile.

I'm going to go for the web quality jpeg widest side 600px and charge the same as a 7x5 print.

This is something I have been asked a lot at mountain bike events. I charge £10 for a jpeg of approx 1.5 - 2mb in size (this limits the max size of print somewhat as I believe that if a client wants a larger print, it's going to be on display and, therefore, I would like to know it's been printed properly to prevent someone seeing a poor print and mistakenly thinking that the photographer was at fault) Although I only sell it once, I find that clients often buy 2 or 3 of themselves, so I see it as worth it.
However, I recently received an abusive e-mail from someone who informed me that I was a "total rip-off" as he raced a lot and had "never paid more than £5 for a digital shot, usually £2.50 and often given free" !!! I never get into a debate with anyone about rates etc. and wished him well., but it does give an indication of the way some people view professional photography - i.e. "Anyone can buy a digital camera and take shots like you, so why should I pay those kind of prices when someone else is happy to give me shots for free?" And on we go.....

I ride at motorcycle track days, usually at brands hatch. The track tog charges £10 for the first picture and £2 for each one on top. I don't think thats too unreasonable. He'll email you the jpeg if you order 4 or less and post a cd if you want more than 4. But they are pretty crap quality, using then as wallpaper on my 22" monitor they look very poor.... Which is disappointing to say the least.
