Hi guys,

I have recently been trying my hand at sone landscape shooting. Alas I keep running into a problem with my scene. The lower half and top half are providing me with problems. I can not seem to get the sky to stop washing out. The other day I was shooting a scene. The clouds were a lovely mixture of soft grey and some underlined with darker tones of grey. However, when viewing the images I found that the sky and clouds were a wash out of off White.

What settings are needed? I have tried using a CPL. Is there anything else I need to be doing?
Any help appreciated :)

P.S What does NSFW prefix for threads stand for?

NSFW means Not Safe For Work.

The reason that the sky is getting washed out is because it is a lot lighter than the ground and the camera is exposing for the ground. To stop this from happening you can use a ND grad, this darkens the sky whilst retaining the exposure for the ground. I hope that makes sense?

Hi The NSFW stands for not safe for work, usually used for nude type stuff.

The best way around this is meter from & expose for the sky, this will sometimes underexpose your foreground/ land, but under exposure ids better than over as it can be altered in post. Shots like this is always a bit of a balancing act as to get it PERFECT is hardly ever going to happen. The other/better way is to get a ND fliter, which is basically like sunglasses for your camera & can balance the scene much better.

b****r I type too slow! :-)

Thanks guys. I just looked on Jessops and saw a P series grad set for £60. That recommended?

Not Safe For Work - I may sound like a complete non intellectual here but what does that actually mean?

Contains material that some/most company's would find inappropriate to view during work hours, e.g. Nude & Glamour section.

Ahhh I see lol. Can't believe I didn't click to that. Taxi for one!!
