Firstly i know theyve been done to death on here and are usually deemed as *****e

but is it worth buying a cheap one just for the stand? and buying a better quality background for it afterwards?
 
The cheap one's in the main aren't that sturdy wouldn't recommend.

at the end of the day its going to be used to hold fabric, i bought the cheaper option and it does what its meant too, might not be as sturdy as the rest, but does it need to be?
 
Is it going to be fixed/set up in one location/studio? Or do you plan for it to be portable? I would pay a bit extra for better quality set up in that case. Cheap frames and stands tend to wear out quicker with use, if you're moving it around a lot the chances of screws and bits and bobs breaking will be greater with the cheapo ones.

It does if you don't want to have it fall on top of a client or your kids.

No it isn't. As soon as you put kids into the mix and any kind of muslin or paper background accidents will happen.
