Im After getting a flash from my Canon 1100D but cont really afford the prices of the Speedlight.

Is there a cheap alternative, has anyone used an ebay special???
 
Yongnuo and Nissin are Chinese manufacturers and apparently both are pretty good. :thumbs:
If you want really cheap then look out for a Jessops 360AFD.
I have one and it though doesn't work properly on my 50D it worked ok on my 40D.
You can easily pick them up for around £35 now.
 
Looks like the 465 isn't compatible with the 1100D, not sure the Jessops is either, quite probably not as it's a few years old.
Yongnuo 468-II looks like it's fully compatible, £70. :thumbs:

that's the one I'm thinking to go for as my 2nd flash in place of another Canon flash.

I didn't realise that when I bought a 430ex-II off here recently. :(
I still have the jessops one which does work as an optical slave though whether I'll ever use it as such is a different story. :lol:
 
Yes the yn465 is compatible, as is the yn468 which is a better model but more expensive.
 
yeah, I was really disappointed when met up with a friend of mine, who is using SB-900. I spent 10min on the phone googling this, turns out none of the Canon flashes can do optical slave.

So I will be using Yongnuo 622 with 430exII as off camera master flash, and adding a Yongnuo 468-II soon for strobist setup.
 
The Nissin Di622 MkII are good flashes, well built, fully featured and good prices. The MkI should be compatible with the 1100D but if you go with a Nissin I'd go for the MkII for future proofing. The MkI's aren't compatible with the newer Canon bodies like the 650D and 60D.
 
Thanks for the advice guys, ill keep my eyes on ebay and wait for a bargin :-)
