Cheap Geo Tagging

Anyone any experience with this?

Seems too good to be true, so probably is... but still... if it works, I may be interested.

There's a favourable review on DP Review... but still. Any personal experience would be welcome.

I have one and it works perfectly with a D300, D700 and I also used it with a D90, have not yet used it with my D810. The data shows up in the EXIF in the correct field in the correct format - nothing else to say really.

Cheers. Appreciated.

I use GeotagPhotos Pro on the iPhone about £3.00. Works great.

I don't have a smart phone.

Not sure if you have purchased one yet David but can I suggest you also look at the Holux range of GPS devices. I use one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Holux-GPS...108977?hash=item5426bc0471:g:xJwAAMXQWzNSjsLr as I have a remote trigger that sits on the hotshoe already. I like the fact that I just switch on the Holux at the start of my shooting day and switch it off at the end then import the data into Lightoom's map module to tag all the photos. A bit more time consuming that having them tagged on the fly but like I said my hotshoe is already taken. I used to use Geotag Photos Pro as mentioned by snap-happy but I found the accuracy to be a bit hit and miss but I can honestly say the accuracy on the Holux is spot on.

Edit - They also do devices without an LCD screen which appear to be just loggers and I presume they would have the same accuracy.

I got the Opteka one. It works just fine :) Thanks for the links though

You're welcome. Glad you got sorted. Out of curiosity, what is the accuracy like?

Anyone tried the di-GPS Eco Pro from Dawn ?:

Love the idea of a really small unit that uses the 10 pin socket on Nikon pro body cameras and doesn't stick out with any wires etc. It promises one of the fastest lock on times and one of the lowest current consumption (less than a 1/3 of the Nikon GP-1 unit)

Seems to be within 10 or 15 metres.. less with a strong signal. Certainly MORE than good enough for tagging a photo. Hard to say really as I can only compare it to online services, and they may not be that accurate to begin with. It's certainly accurate enough that anyone could go to the place the shot was taken.

What I also love about that one is the fact that it has a pass through connector. As well as the hotshoe being taken up by my remote trigger (Hanhel Giga-T Pro II) the 10 pin connector is also used. This device would be perfect for me if the accuracy was on par with the Holux I already use.

That would be more than close enough for me. Shame it uses the hotshoe.

It doesn't have to go there, and a lot of accessories have a hot shoe on top anyway. It's not something that will be used THAT regularly, so no biggie :)
