I have the macro filter rings that you put onto the end of your existing lens and they are +5, +10 etc. they work quite well and cost me a fiver

Are there any other "cheats" like this for people on a real tight budget.

Also are there any old film lenses or other brand lenses that would autofocus on my D60?

Some el cheap extension tubes from China work OK but everything is manual. I use them on an old Cosina Macro lens.

The problem with your D60 is, as you know, the lack of an autofocus motor, meaning that you need lenses that have their own motor. Unfortunately the removal of the motor is a fairly recent Nikon trick, in their drive to produce a smaller. lighter camera, meaning that only fairly recent Nikon and even newer 3rd party lenses with motors will give you af.

All is not lost though, as Nikon thoughtfully added a "rangefinder" feature to the D60 which makes precise manual focussing much, much easier than with some of the more expensive models, opening up a whole world of cheap old Nikon glass from film camera days to you...

How do I use the rangefinder? got any tips?

Will have a go at that, put my D60 into Manual mode and try focussing with that. Normally I'm doing equine sport so don't have time to be manual focusing, but I suppose it would be alright for showjumping..
