Good afternoon everyone, I'm looking for a cheap nd grad set to get me started in the world of filters. What's everyones reccomendations? I have looked at a cokin set for £50 **** sounds reasonable. I have a sigma 17-70 thread size is 77mm I think. Thanks for any help

be very carefull with cheaper nd grads sometimes you can get horrific colour casts my cokin ones gave a purple pink cast you can correct it afterwards but thats not really the point found lee filters to give good results

I have some Cokin filters, good to get started with and pretty cheap, but I agree about the colour casts. My skies tend to be a lot pinker than they should be.

But, on the plus side, I have a circular polariser which I can fit on any of my lenses using the P-series holder.

Have a look at Premier Ink - they sell the kood set at a decent price. I bought the set and have not had any problems with it.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Is a soft filter better than a hard filter for landscape work?

Soft is more general purpose. Hard you'll only really want with very flat horizons, seascapes for example. Soft will have a less obvious effect where there's hills or things sticking up.

Thanks Matt, so a cokin holder and adapter and some hitech nd's is about the best starter option?
