Yes
Last Christmas elder daughter was given a camera and lost it within a week.
This year she needs another as a school trip to Swaziland is looming but given her history I don't want to spend much. In fact, I don't want to spend anything but fear I might need to unless I turn to crime.

I assume that most cameras below £100 will be much the same, but if anyone has any suggestions then please let me know - Thanks !

Have a look in CEX or the like, see what they have on the shelf.

my 12 yo lad is off to France and Germany in just over a week so I thought I best pick up a cheap camera that can take AAs, I found a Canon SX150 IS with 8gb Sandisk card for £34 quid.

we took it out for a test to see how it performs and how it works, bloody decent is all I can say, I was pretty surprised how good it is even in lower light if you keep it at its shortest focal length and widest aperture. only 720p video mode but it looks very good with the IS and zooming is slower in video mode so the transition from wide to tele is very smooth.

Avoid any sub £50 cameras made by Polaroid and Vivitar, that's for sure but Fuji and Canon seem to be good for it at that price range.

how dare you put a camera related post on a photography forum  :help:

Can you remember where you got it? A quick look on Amazon shows it about double the price but from what you say it sounds ideal!

Why not, as a Christmas present (an early one if the trip is before Christmas), give your daughter enough money to buy another camera? If she wants to take a camera with her then she has the money to buy one.

This place has some pretty amazing people on it.
A couple of days ago a member PM'ed me to say that they had a camera that might do the job and that I could have it, free..

How fantastic is that ?
Very many thanks - you know who you are, and I am very grateful, and my daughter will be too !

The camera has just arrived, and not only does it look like new, but it arrived complete with batteries and a memory card.
It will be perfect for daughter, so very many thanks to you, oh kind person.

This is what a community is all about. Who ever donated the camera I salute you.:snaphappy:

You're very welcome Steve, I'm glad it arrived safe and sound.
I hope your daughter captures some good memories on her trip :-)
