Yes
So in the next few weeks I am doing a little trip round Europe and would like to record the drive in the form of a time lapse.

Because of where we are going and also being in an open top car I would rather not use my dslr.
My thinking is a cheep little thing that I can be less worried about.
Being able to power from the car would be a bonus.

What are my options, the cheaper the better (y)

If you dont find a cheap something to do this with, try this remote for your dslr HERE
Just bought myself one and its a fantastic little bit of equipment.
That ones for a Canon but they do them for all makes and models of camera's.

Ideally less than a gopro, think more ebay 50quid special here

Can it be done?

I know some Sony Handycams (ones made around four years ago) had a built in "interval recording" mode where you can set it to take a 0.5 sec snapshot every 5, 10, 30 seconds or 1 minute. It's a great little hidden feature not many people knew about.

This is a recent test shot done with my Sony Handycam HC46E:

This camcorder can record stuff like this while connected to the mains, and the battery is good for 90 minutes but not sure if there is a car cigarette plug adaptor for it.

EDIT: Seems that such an adaptor does exist: http://www.psaparts.co.uk/camcorder/sony/dcr-hc46e-battery-adapter-charger.html

I would of thought that an early Canon Powershot (say G3) and a remote trigger would do the job, in budget.
