Cheaper alternative to L glass

Hey peeps looking to either trade or sell my 70-200mm F4 L for something of a smaller zoom range, e.g starting around 17mm ect, what in your opinion/experience would you reccommend as an an alternative to L glass, been looking to trade for a canon 17-40 but to no avail.....

Any Ideas Guy/Gals.........:shrug:
 
All i have is a nifty fifty, im off to disneyland in just over a week and need a lens by then..........:gag:
 
Tamron 17-50 is cracking walkabout lens on a crop sensor camera, that would be my suggestion if 50mm is long enough.

I used to have the tammy 17-50 2.8 but traded it for my 70-200

What about the sigma 24-70 2.8 ex?
 
or if you need a bit more reach how about a sigma 17-70?

EDIT: whoops too slow! 24-70 is nice glass. sharper than the 17-70, but lacking at the wide end

He's got a Canon so its gonna hunt for ages lol.

Another vote for the tamron 17-50 f2.8 its a cracking lens as mentioned its the Nifty fifty of the zoom world, plastic not the best build quality or AF speed but it is sharp :) very sharp.
 
I have an old Canon 20-35 2.8 L sitting in a bag doing nothing that you can borrow for your trip to Florida. It will save you making any snap decisions before going on holiday. :)

PM me if intrested as you have good history here I think I can trust you to send it back after your hols. :cool:
 
Canon 15-85 a bit slow but great quality pics good spread for a walkabout..
Sigma 17-70 OS HSM
 
S/hand Canon 17-55mm perhaps, yes it will have dust, but makes b****r all difference to the great picture quality

you mentioned the Canon 17-40 (which is L lens), but as a walk around it is a bit weak. Not quite a big enough stretch (even with a cropped lens) and not so punchy at wide open (f/4). It is a cracking landscape lens on a full frame sensor (fabulous at small aperutures), but not so good as a walk around lens on a cropped sensor.
