Cheapest Lens that will fit M-Mount

Hey guys,

I know this is sacrilege but I just need to know what half-decent lens (in the 28mm -50mm range) I can get without smashing all my piggybanks. I've been looking at zeiss and voigtlander, the real Leica ones are a bit too much for me. I'll be using it on an M-Mount camera but I can get a screw to M adapter if needs be.

The Zeiss 50mm f/2, Konica 28mm f2.8 Hexanon or the Zeiss 28mm if you want wider. Voigtlander lenses you can take your pick really, some of the 35mm Ultrons and wider Skopar lenses seem to generate a lot of positive feedback.

What are you looking to roughly spend and what are you mounting them on?

I think Apertureuk.com have one or two of them for sale if you don't mind second hand. What's the R-D1 like to shoot with? Don't think I've ever seen one on the streets.
 
Thanks, and not sure yet, I'm only in the hypotheical planning stage at the moment! ;) Ped on here has one though.
 
I got the R-D1 :) I'm going to get some old russian lenses to use in the meantime until I can afford better lenses. Unless they turn out to be decent of course!

(possibly silly) question to anyone that knows, do lenses used with the screw to M-bayonet adapters still work with the built in rangefinder?

I think if they are rangefinder coupled then yes, but there are some that aren't (12mm, 15mm etc). I'm not 100% on the RD1 as I haven't used one. RFF forum has a good RD1 community where you can be sure.
 
I'm looking at Jupiter 8's and Jupiter 12's, I just got a response from a seller that a 12 works just fine, so I think I'm alright :)
