Seems to be quite a few places that sell the 50mm lens. Where have you found to be the cheapest?
(This is an essential lens is it not?)

Well you can often find the 50mm f1.8 (referred to as the "Nifty Fifty") on here for about £60 - £70.

This is an extremely sharp lens and definitely the best value for money.

Or there is the 50mm f1.4 lens which many on here are very fond of but a lot more money.

And the 50mm f 1.2 L lens which is more expensive again.

And finally the 50mm f2.5 Macro lens which can give a 1:2 magnification at the sensor.

Kerso £80

Not sure I'd classify a 50mm as "essential" though. Just about every new slr owner buys one, only to sell it a few weeks later when they realise it's not really all that useful a focal length.....

I have an 18-55mm and a 75-300mm.

One photographer friend said a 50mm would be pointless because of the 18-55mm I already have, another said its essential.

I'm confused.
Just getting into this properly so not sure what I should have and shouldn't!

(thanks for your replies)
