Checking lens after impact

Following on from this post, where I had a skier land on me and smash the UV filter on my lens, I should probably check the lens out/get it checked out.

Most of the glass from the filter ended up down my sleeve and I've brushed the rest off the front element of the lens (17-40F4L). There also seems to be a small nick on the front element, right at the edge, would this cause I problem? I shoot cropped sensor cameras most of the time (1.3x & 1.6x).

Or if sending it off is the best option, roughly how much does it cost to get a lens serviced?
