Let me set the scene, I was working "landfill" and as such,
I had the birds weathering away from the pit, on the short grass.
There is almost a "headland" to the short grassed area.
ie longer grass / thistles / and associated "weeds"

I thought I saw movement...........

This little bugger try to sneak up on the tethered birds!

Luckily I was only a few feet away, and close enough to "startle" the perpetrator.

Well I say startle, she ambled off in a Easterly direction.
That was was a few of days ago now.

I decided to "bait" the area to see what would happen.
(yes it was a slow boring week :D)
And this was the result.
She looked to be in excellent condition too.

Hmmm Tastes like chicken ;)

Love #2, really nice 'portrait' despite the ear-tip.

Love the second shot Chris, she's a beauty.

Tara
Thanks Tara its appriciated (y)

Thanks Gramps, (y) and yes I was ****ed off about that too :(
Unfortunately it was "almost" a "grab shot",
She started to "leg it" then suddenly turned round.
Looking for seconds I guess :D

In which case even more brownie points :D

#2 is a cracking shot, I can see that in a magazine.

Hope she was chewing a chick in #1 and not a rubber duck.......meanwhile 2hrs later.

Yep it was a real DOC and not a plastic one (even I'm not that cruel :D)

Love no 2.

Absolutely great..

More than happy to forgive the ear tip.

I like it more now than when I posted it TBH, so,
I might even see if it recoverable in CS5 ;)

Awesome second Chris, loving the light in the eyes. :clap:
Thanks Adam, much appreciated (y)
beautiful condition, defo a she? ..very broad face, male ish. ..just pondering.
Well actually I say "she" as it was quite lean, sleek, and "lightly built"
I guess, now you mention it it could well have been a young male.
I didn't really get a lot of time to "look that closely" TBH

Wow, lovely pictures Mr Snake (y)
You are lucky to get so close to it, does look in good nick too,
but should a fox eating frozen chicks be classed as wild and free :p
(only joking) wish I had some to tempt my local fox pupulation

I don't know how much they are now, but I think I used to pay around £10 per 100.

Thanks for dropping by and commenting, Scott.
'tis much appreciated (y)

2nd shot's a cracker....handsome little devil ain't he!

That second shot Cobra - just wow - love how the eyes 'pop' excellent! :)

I love the second shot although it seems a little too cropped.

I wish the foxes around my area were that clean! lol

No.2's a beauty of a portrait, stunning!! He/she looks in good health, so much cleaner than any of the grimey urban foxes I see

I love the second shot although it seems a little too cropped.

Thanks Guys its much appreciated (y)
"it" certainly was clean I guess its all that good living scrounging the rabbits
that's are living on the "returned" area of the land fill.
Scott, that's full stretch with a 70-200, no cropping involved (well maybe just a trim at the edges)
Yes it did really get that close. (end of the bonnet in the van)
It started to "run", paused and turned, I guess it heard the shutter firing.
It has no reason to fear me, as they are not shot or controlled
in anyway, up there.

um what does 'weathering birds' mean and why were they tethered? anyway, not too keen on no. 1 because the crop is a bit tight and the fox isn't looking in your direction, maybe a bit more of the body would have helped? (That's the standard I expect from me ha ha). But the 2nd one is stunning

PS you can blame gramps for this

You tell him Summer .... :exit:

ha ha, I been busy, maybe making enemies huh? I ain't scared tho

um what does 'weathering birds' mean and why were they tethered?
Part of my job involves flying BoP's as deterrent at landfill site, to shift
Gulls, corvids and other scavenging birds.
When they are resting they are tethered to a block / or bow depending on
whether or not its a hawk or longwing.
They are allowed a bath and to sunbath.
this is called "Weathering"

anyway, not too keen on no. 1 because the crop is a bit tight and the fox isn't looking in your direction, maybe a bit more of the body would have helped? (That's the standard I expect from me ha ha).
The head shot and chick was really just to show how "effective" the "baiting" had been.
and as that took place at the end of my "bonnet", I really couldn't fit a lot more of the fox in the frame :D

But the 2nd one is stunning
Thanks (y)

I did see your other post Summer ;)
and well done for getting stuck in (y)
Don't know why you picked on me though :(

cos you were there innit lol, no I have been critical of others too, thanks for explaining about the birds....so how do I get a job like yours?

In truth my son would like to do some falconry - he's a bit like Bill Oddie (but not as old lol) - really into conservation etc. He's just finished his degree so is like a lost lamb looking for work

Falconry is only a part of my job.
And degree does help ;)
But if he or you are / is looking purely at a job as a falconer the money is terrible, and they actually are rarely available.
And its not something you can just do, it'd be like putting someone that's
never driven in their life and giving them an artic.
Sure, you'd pick it up eventually, but there would be quite a few disasters
on the way.
But for now, if he or you wants to try it, search for falconry experience days, that way your'll get an idea, of what happens.

his degree is in computer games programming

he is hoping to get a job close to a wildlife centre so he can do some volunteering for them.

still, your job sounds very interesting :)

That second image is really good (y) like that a lot
Regards
Richard
