Chinon CS film camera

I have been given a Chinon CS 35mm film camera.

It appears to be in working order but I have been unable to test it as I am 100% digital. It has a Vivitar 28mm lens attached.

The timer works as does the shutter speed adjustment. The mirror makes a lovely noise when the shutter released is depressed.

I have seen a couple on eBay for around £95 but was wondering if it is really worth anything or not.

Would love to hear your comments.

Many thanks.

From recollection, the mount is the same a Pentax K - so the lens should be usable with an adapter on DSLRs. What are the first two digits of the serial of the lens? The body is probably only worth about £25-£35.

Hi,

The first two digits are 28.

Rob

That would be made by Komine for Vivitar. Probably the best of the manufacturers that made lenses for Vivitar (Tokina, Kiron and latterly Cosina were the main ones, although there were quite a few other manufacturers). The lens should be good if it is in good condition.

The Chinon SLR was made for and sold exclusively by Dixons at the time. As others have said, I think it took Pentax K bayonet lenses, so it was a popular camera. I've no real idea on value, but I'd think about 90-100 quid would be about it for the value if it's in very good nick.

Keep it - shove some film through it. ;)

Thanks, this one seems to have a scew in lens not bayonet - does that change things?

I would say £90 at a push if it is in REALLY good condition. Usually selling the body and lens separately yields more. Based on past experience, £50 for the lot might be more realistic - I wouldn't get your hopes up.

I think the Chinon took the same screw mount as Pentax, but adopted the K bayonet when Pentax swapped to the K bayonet mount. No real difference in value.

That'll be an M42 lens then. Also good and the lens can be used on virtually any (more so than a Pentax-K) DSLR body, even Nikon (with their large sensor-flange distance), with the correct adapter.

Price wise, not much in it, but the lens will be a bit easier to sell.

Oh I couldn't agree more. I'm saying 90 -100 quid if someone really wants it and it's in top condition. If I didn't have a film camera and it appears usable - I'd keep it and use it.

Not sure I want to use a film camera.... offers anyone??????

Get yourself a cheap M42 adapter off ebay - they're dirt cheap and you can use the lens on your Canon.
