Chipping a Samyang 14mm UWA

Hi all, has anyone chiped their 14mm yet? I did mine last night, with mixed results, (or lack of knowledge perhaps) Having set the aperture to its max (2.8) as in the instructions i find i am unable to change the aperture setting in AV mode, is this correct, i was under the assumption (wrongly?) that by setting the aperture i could set the camera to match the lens so the value would be recorded on the Exif. As it is all it recods is the set value of 2.8.

The chip is a V5 with AF trip ability, this seems not to work very well, it does indeed fire the shutter when you depress the shutter all the way and then focus, but the center point of focus (the one i chose in the camera) is not sharp.

Anyone had any experience of the chips?

there are no electronics in the EF mount samyang lenses - you have to set the aperture manually on the lens. to get metering you have to have it in AV or manual on the camera.
 
This is more of an out of interest post, but would it be possible to use the Pentax version and then use a focus confirm K-mount adapter?
 
Anyone else chipped a Samyang? Interested to see if anybody has done a 85 1.4 Canon mount.

I've got the 14mm for Canon, and found there's an official dealer for the V5 chips just around the corner from where I work. I thought about getting them to chip it, but seeing as it's a UWA lens I've decided to just have a go at calibrating the focus ringing when I have free time and leaving it at that.

I also tried the 85mm at another shop, but I tried the Nikon version (the older one, no chip) with a Nikon to Canon AF adapter and it worked a treat. In the end I decided I didn't need the lens, but if I were to get it it would be the Nikon version. Just wish I got the 14mm as the Nikon version now.

What if the rest of your lenses are f4? Is it still usable?

Excuse my ignorance...What do you mean by a split image focus screen?

Did you ever use a manual focus film SLR? When you look through the viewfinder you would see a circle with a line through it when you focused on a subject (say a telegraph pole) the pole would be split in 2 when out of focus and as you focused the lens the 2 sections would come together to form the whle pole, then it was in focus.

You can easilly change the focus screen on the 5D MK2 to one that has a split image on it, this makes man focusing easier.
