Chips on front element

Just a quick one,

I recently bought a second hand 17-55mm F2.8 IS USM and on close inspection it has two very tiny chips on the outer edge of the front element. They are small and not very deep and I'm pretty sure the seller was completely unaware of them, they can almost be mistaken for dust.

What would be the best way to test to see if they affect image quality? any particular background/lighting?

Thanks

Flippin eck, I wasn't expecting such damage. Im guilty of getting hung up over things like dust and scratches even though the logical side of my brain says to ignore them, they dont affect the image quality.

Chips on the front element shouldn't be too much of a problem, providing they are not covered in salt and vinegar!

I'll get my coat.

Shamefully i have 2 small scratches/chips on one of my olympus lenses and it does show up on the full size image as tiny tiny red dots. I just clone them out though, only takes a second and they are so small you probably wouldn't see them anyway. They bug me because i know they are there though lol.
