Hello,

Was thinking of getting a Circular Polarizing filter. I don't own any filters and was wondering if this would be a good one to get. It would be good to be able to darken skies so they are not over exposed.

I was thinking of this Hama one as it is quite a good price.

Does anyone have any recommendations are advice on this Hama filter or others?

Thanks,

Mike

A Circular Polarizer does reduce the light entering the camera, but the camera's metering system compensates.

A Circular Polarizer reduces reflections, to a large or subtle degree depending on the position of the light source relative to the camera. It can may blue skies darker, it can take the shininess of foliage making them appear more saturated, and take the reflections of water for example amongst other things. Normally over exposed fluffy white clouds will still be overexposed as the camera, as mentioned earlier, has compensated for the slight reduction in over all exposure.

If you need to reduce the measured exposure, use the EV button.

If you need to reduce the brightness of just the sky, get a Graduated Neutral Density filter.

not sure i,d go for a hama think i,d go for a hoya  can highly recommend picstop the company amazon is using

I use a Hamma CPL filter on my 24-70 and have no complaints. Just make sure the one you buy is double-coated to virtually eliminate flare :)
