Hi,

Yesterday I have purchased new Epson printer, the popular PX710W.
Although I love Epson cartridges, I am leaning towards continuous ink supply system (CISS).

Have you ever used CISS?
Can you recommend any manufacturers of hardware or ink?

I really appreciate any information that will help me choosing the right product.

Thanks,

Sebastian

Good to know, thank for your reply.
There are SO many types of continuous ink system and it is really hard to pick one without recommendation.

CISS itself is a great idea, but only if filled with good inks...

Any help appreciated!

Cheers,

Sebastian

Been running a cheap as chips system on my R300 for about 4 years. If used regularly it's no problem, if left may take a couple of cleaning cycles to get all the jets back.

On my old 2000p A3 with Pigment inks I've tried 2 systems and both have failed. One always letting in air, and now one thats knackered the printer.

As the 2000p cost me £50 I'n not too upset.

Looking at an R1900 now with either Fotosense or Lyson system. The Lyson is silly money but it seems to be what the pro's use.

Looks just the job and a good price.

Just looked at their dye based system for the R1900, cheapest I've seen yet.

One thing to remember though Seb is that the use of CISS systems if proven can void your warrenty.

I am aware of it and I am willing to take the risk.
Thanks for your opinion Chris!

If you are buying an Epson printer then you may wish to take a look here.

It appears to contradict what has been said on previous replies

however, if these products cause a failure, the repair of that failure will not be covered under warranty.

Guarantee if you send your printer back for a knackered head with anything but Epson carts in it you will pay for the repair.

:D

ps I've been to Epson at Hemel Hemstead a number of times

Ran a CISS on the R300 for years and just gave it away to a new home....

I've got re-fillable cartridges on the R2400 and HP 6280.

On the HP it is brilliant the cartridges are large and you just inject the ink, I can fill all 6 in the space of a TV add.

On the R2400 it is a bit more of a faff but still only takes 10 minutes or so. Might well go down the CISS route on the R2400 (especially now that I have found the secret setting that now gives me lab quality prints after being disappointed for ages!)

Buy empty refillable carts.

Much tidier.

I ve used a CISS on my Canon printer for the last 18 months or so and aprox 1200 A4 full colour prints which have cost about 20p each, with NO problems. Got it here, good seller.

When I first got it I did a lot of tests comparing it with genuine Canon ink cartridges and there was no discernable difference. The prints have also not noticably faded in the last 18 months.
The guys in my camera club have been so impressed that 5 others have also bought and use the system including one ARPS pro. Highly recommended for Canon, I presume just as good for Epson

I appreciate your input guys. I will try out CISS as I love the idea of printing a lot of photos at small cost.
I will check your links and recommendations.
Thanks again for your help!

epson do allow 3rd party inks now, CIS will invalidate the warranty if your daft enough to leave it attached when i arrive to fix it :)

What do Epson think of refillable cartridges then?

I've always been a fan of Epson printers but their advantage (ie ink reservoirs rather than head and reservoir packages) can also be a disadvantage. I really like my R2400 but it is seriously flaky by firewire :)

Been using Lyson CIS on my R2400 for 3 years now. Very happy with it.

I will be going down that route shortly as my bottles of ink have nearly run out for the refillable cartridges so will switch to CISS and separate waste ink tank.

I have no idea, were just the UK wide onsite service, they tell us nothing !

an e-mail got sent to all engineers saying we can no longer invalidate warranty based on the inks/toners they use. it does not apply to CIS based kits as they cause strain on the carriage return motor meaning we walk out the door without touching it.

I would like to see one of the major manufacturers produce a printer that just requires refilling with ink but it will never happen as they make all their money on the cartridges rather than the printers. How on earth can anyone make a profit selling a colour inkjet at under £30 !!

This is the waste tank I have. Simple, with clear instructions. It took about 15 mins to fit. It does involve slight disassembly of the casing and drilling a small hole in the side of the printer.
Be prepared for the shock of just how much ink goes to waste during a head clean.

Just get refillable with auto reset chips, easier and no worries of leaking etc. I used refillables with my rx425 and rx685 with no problem.

I actually have a complete set for sale in the forum....:D

Thanks Chris.

Is THIS something you would recommend?

In a word, yes. I have run one or theirs on an Epson R1400 ( A3) for over 2 years and one on an HP C7280 for over a year. No problems with either and I think the inks in the Epsom are more vibrant than the originals.

Go for it, refillable cartridges are messy and you need to do them every few weeks, my CISS systems have 100ml ink in each colour and last months and are simple and cheap to fill.
