CISS- Continuous Ink System, Worth The Bother??

Hi,

After seeing many of these being sold on the net, I've been decided on whether they are worth bothering with as from the outset they look fantastic with huge cost savings to be had compared to buying original ink cartridges which we all know can be pricey and in some cases dearer buying a complete set than buying a new printer.

I'm going to be buying a Canon IP4600 soon, it's had some good reviews on both it day to day printing abilities and also it's photo output quality which leads me onto whether it's worth trying a CISS system as I'll be printing out quite a few B&W photo's as well as colour enlargements.

I know in most cases it probably more cheaper and easier to get them done via an online photo processing company, but sometimes I need instant prints done and Dye-Sub is quite costly in comparison for both the printers and the paper etc(not to mention that I'll also want 8x10" prints which bumps up the price of all Dye-sub models to more than what I'm willing to pay.

Hi i'm useing an CISS with my Epson R200 and cant fault it good prints and economical.

Hi,

Steep I see your review after doing a search on here after I posted my thread and it seemed promising to say the least...I can't seem to find one(apart from Ebay from China) for the Canon IP4600 printer...as there's a few differences between the 4500 model and the newer 4600 series(different black inks etc)

I'll definatly consider buying a CISS system once I've decided on a reasonably priced A4 photo printer....any suggestions?

Michael.

I had the same problem with my 1400, it takes a while for ciss makers to catch up with new printer models. It's worth waiting for a while to get the one you want though.

In terms of photo printers, I'm a long time Epson fan and have never tried any other make. I do notice dedicated A4 photo printers of any make are getting a bit thin on the ground though, more and more of these all in one things are appearing.

CISS every time
As far as all in one models go, they're fine until something goes wrong, then you've lost everything.

I had one of those systems from city ink express for my canon ip6000d.
It was never 100% reliable it would just stop printing any of the 6 colours at any time it pleased, usually half way through a print on expensive paper.

The ink however, is pretty good, it produces a slightly wider gamut than some of the 5x more expensive lyson photonic inks.

It wasn't through the want of trying to get it to work either, it would have been soooo convenient. Ive ditched the CIS and just use the ink to fill my carts once a week or so.

Maybe mine was a duff kit.
