Looking to convert my 488rc2 to an arca swiss compatible clamp and get an L plate for my 5D2, what do you good folks recommend?

Hi, I've got a Kirk convertor that simply slots into the RC2 plate and converts it to Arca, without changing the head. It's an extra. I've also got a Kirk L plate for a 5D2. Always worked perfectly for me. The convertors are rarer than hen's teeth - perhaps because everyone is trying to persuade you to buy a complete new system. Even Wex - the UK importers for Kirk - don't stock them!

They are now both surplus to requirements, and I'm happy to let them go, but don't for God's sake ask on this thread. If you're interested in them just start a wanted thread and we'll talk there.

I use Hejnar conversions on my 405 and 410 heads, they're well made and work well.

If you can't run to a Hejnar conversion a quick and dirty conversion is to fasten your existing QR plate on and use a Kirk 1 inch clamp attached to the tripod screw of the QR plate.

For L brackets I've got a Kirk on my 5D3, a RRS on my 645AFDii and a generic Novoflex to lend people when tutoring. I'd recommend a custom L bracket over a generic one as they have the correct cutouts for cable release etc and fit better, I check the fit on mine periodically and have never even needed to tighten them.

Thanks for your input folks. I've snaffled the Kirk L plate and adaptor for the 488rc2 :)

All the sunways/chinese knock offs/etc that I've looked at do not have a cut out for the remote/don't let you still use the strap/etc etc etc

I guess I should've specified that I need the right cut outs for the plate as I use my wired remote pretty much all the time for tripod work. The Hejnar stuff looks good though
