Been a while since I visited here does the forum still have a classified section as all i see now is "You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action."

Absence from the site leads to a reduction in access. I can see that in recent years you only posted in the Classifieds. If you start posting in other sections, the access will automatically return, but please note that the Classifieds are a perk of membership, they are not intended to be the reason foreign on TP. We get nothing in commission, but thankfully some users who benefit from the Classifieds buy us a coffee or two instead or make a donation in other ways.

With respect, access wasn’t ‘reduced’ due to my behaviour I see it was removed without any prior notice.
I see it has been reinstated with thanks and with health issues and personnel reasons I have not posted a lot in other forums but agree I could always make a change even if it is a like for a picture or to help someone else.

I'm not sure with the idea that members should have to ‘buy a coffee’ to justify using a feature that’s always been part of the forum. Participation shouldn’t be tied to posting quotas or optional payments, but hey, it is what it is free speech and all that.

I will add a little that will help you understand why the faultless, blameless block was introduced.

I had not been on for some considerable time due to other things in life. However someone managed to hack my account and sold a ghost lens to another member for considerable money. I only knew when I got a personal message from the member that was scammed. To be honest it made me mad and broke my heart.

So the automatic cut off was introduced to combat this problem. Please don't take it as personal, every account has the same restriction added.

As for the cuppa nobody is saying you have to buy a brew, its just nice to repay the time and effort the guys and girls put in to what is a free service to members.

Please just get back to joining in the forum and try to not let this taint your feelings

Everything Chris says (and thanks again to Chris for this support as well as the kind coffee contributions).
It has always, always been the case that the Classifieds exist as a perk for members to use, TP was never intended to be a selling platform alternative to flabby etc. Sadly quite a few people over the years have only used that section rather than actually engaging in the real purpose of Talk Photography. We tolerate that but encourage more complete participation. Traders however get short shrift - trading being the frequent buying and selling via TP.

If you are not happy about it you can go elsewhere, we give up our time freely to keep this forum running and we make difficult decisions to ensure that we can keep TalkPhotography the best forum on the internet for everyone.

With all due respect, pointing out an issue isn’t the same as “being unhappy,” and telling members to go elsewhere instead of addressing the concern doesn’t come across as appropriate or professional especially when it’s coming from those representing the forum.

I'm afraid that the idea of challenging our decision to remove classifieds access for members who don;t actually contribute to discussion and image-sharing and because we are trying to protect members from scammers, is pretty daft. You can sell gear in lots of places on the net and with various dealers. If you don't want to engage in photography discussion and image sharing, why would you be on the site? If only for the classifieds, then that's not really what we are here for.

All I did was ask why ‘my ’access was removed. I wasn't trying to change anything for anyone else. Being called ‘daft’ and told to go elsewhere for a simple question says more about the response than the question. I recently visited the forum to look for a DSLR, as I've been relying on my phone for all my photography needs over the past few years. I consider myself a genuine person who has never scammed anyone and never will.

You challenged a fundamental forum decision, and it appears that your only interest in TP is as a sale/wanted site, so whilst not accusing you of being a scammer, your motivation is less than optimal. However I think this has run its course and is best left there.
