Cleaning filters

I've been out today taking some shots of the beach / sea and have got quite a bit of what i can only think is sea spray on my skylight filter (we're talking from the air here not from waves). Normally i would blow dust off and wipe it with a microfibre cloth but i assume that leaving any type of salt residue on the filter isn't good for it? Any tips?

I also use a microibre cloth , but if I had dried salt residue then I'd be tempted to go for warm water and a mild detergent, followed by a gentle dryout maybe with the cloth and a spell in the airing cupboard.

^^^What he said. Salt spray is really horrible and smears a lot. You could do it with a lens cloth, but then you ought really to wash that. Whole lot easier to wash the filter instead, since you can ;)

Richard.

I use autoglym fastglass on my Cokin filters. It's designed for car windscreens but it does the job nicely on a filter with a bit of microfibre.
