Whats the best way to do this as my 450D has now started giving me the error

Err 01 communication between the camera and the lens is faulty. Clean lens contacts

Ive never had this error before and it would happen now when im about to go to edinburgh in 4 days time so dont have time to send it back to canon plus they wouldnt deal with it anyway as its out of warrenty by 6 days

ill get one later when i have transport i do have a extra warrenty thing but it will take up to 3 weeks to fix and im going away at weekend and needed the second camera for my other half

What about your kids pencil box?

If you are using a rubber, be careful not to allow the debris to get into the lens or camera body.

Personally, I would stick to a lint free cloth with a little clean industrial alcohol (IPA) if necessary.

The simplest way to clean the contacts is to put the lens on and take it off a few times. The action of the contacts running over one another cleans them.

it seems to have stopped doing it now but will keep my eye on it if need be ill ship it off for repair as i have an extended warrenty with pc world so they have to fix it within 21 days if they dont i get a brand spanking new camera (Heres hoping they cant hehe)

A useful thing to have in your camera bag is some Mediswabs. These are the alcohol impregnated swabs that doctors/nurses use to swab you before they give an injection or take blood. Boots or other chemists sell them in boxes of 100. Useful for removing greasy fingerprints from plastics or glass, wiping electrical contacts, cleaning wiper blades, etc etc :)
