I had a problem a few weeks ago when the AF on my 300mm decided to stop working. In desperation I posted on here, as I was due to use it within the hour, and some kind soul (sorry forgot who it was) said clean the contacts with an eraser. I tried it and it worked a charm. Since then though, I've had the odd recurring problem, taking the lens off and rubbing with my finger seem to get things going again. Obviously it would be nice not to AF fail when it chooses, so my question is, does any body know the way to clean these contacts properly and thoroughly? Hope
Thnaks :)

I've used a Cotton Bud and Isopropanol (Or Isopropal Alcohol) that i have at work, its about 1 million times better than white spirit or surgical spirit at cleaning grease and gunk off things!!

Toothbrush or ideally a metal tootbrush. A tiny rub with fine sandpaper may help if tgey look dull and unmetallic.

not sandpaper, the contacts are almost certainly plated brass and you will rub the plating off.......IPA is far betterr

Agreed. The contacts will almost certainly be gold plated to stop corrosion. If you use any type of abrasive, you will remove the gold plating and the contacts will corrode in the presence of air / damp making the situation even worse.

out of curiosity, dose the lens behave the same with all your bodies?
