Cleaning rear element (400mm)

I have a 400mm 5.6 and I am having some difficulties cleaning the rear element. I regularly clean the front but I noticed the other day that there is quite a bit of dust/hair.. on the rear element. The problem is that its about 10cm into the lens. Is there an easy way to clean it, without spending money on some fancy cleaning tools?

Make up a long swab using a thin piece of stick and a bit of lens cloth. Moisten it with lens cleaning fluid.
Make a 2nd swab up for drying & polishing.
Make sure the ends of the sticks under the swabs are well padded to prevent scratches.

Could be a lot of dust in the lens barrel in which case the problem will recur.
A blower may push dust into other internal places.

I can reach it no problem with a Lenspen although most of the time I just use a Rocket blower.
