Cleaning the focusing screen...advice

The matte plastic/glass focusing screen on my 6d has returned from a trip to The Shard covered in dust spots as a result of numerous lens changes.

I've tried blowing it off with a blower brush and compressed air (having removed the screen first), all with little effect.

I'm aware that, unlike the sensor, you should not use any form of wet or dry proprietary cleaner on it.

Does anyone have any suggestions. The spots don't effect the images but are very noticeable when looking through the viewfinder.

I appreciate that I could send it to be professionally cleaned at a Canon service centre no doubt at a cost but feel sure there must be a way of cleaning it.

Your ideas would be appreciated
 
Bruce, how about removing the focus screen, assuming you have the little bit of kit that is supplied with replacement screens. I would then be tempted to use a very clean, lint free cloth and a touch of your breath as the debris can't be much more than dust as you have suggested.

Just a note of caution. I would ditch your can of compressed air mate. These cans contain a propellant and, despite the claims of the respective makers, really are not suitable for cleaning the insides of your camera. In fact there are numerous, documented cases where an air can has either caused more contamination of or damage to the camera's delicate internals. In all honesty the careful use of a rocket blower should suffice in all but the most contaminated of sensors.

Thanks Andy. I've tried the huffing and puffing with no joy. As regards compressed air I don't use it on the internals, and appreciate what you say. I'm wondering if there is anything else to try or to spend £30-40 to have it cleaned by a 'specialist'
