Cleaning the front glass lens element

I got caught in a shower and now have some rain water marks on front glass on my lens, i really dont wanna rub the life out of it incase i damage the glass in one way or another.

So i bought http://www.jessops.com/online.store...ssops/lens-camera-cleaning-kit-9290/show.html

from jessops and it doesnt have 1 instruction to go with it ( i can imagine it being simple) do i just drop a few drops of the cleaning fluid onto the lens then wipe with the lens tissue?

Id say that pretty much covers it mate.

Or you could use your sock! :P
 
I just just breath heavily on my lens and use a micro fibre cloth to buff up! :)
 
Put the fluid on the cloth first then wipe the lens with the cloth.
Any excess fluid SHOULD evaporate.

As Baz says, put a few drops of the fluid on to the cloth, not directly on the lens and everything should clean up well.

I also have a Spectacle micro fibre cloth (from Opticians) to help clean the front lens elements
 
I find microfiber cloths leave small fibers on the glass. I prefer using a glasses cloth.

Glasses cloths ARE microfibre! At least all mine are. If your cloths leave fibres on the lens, then they are probably not microfibre.
 
My preferred method is a LensPen, but I use a cloth and fluid first if there's significant muck.

Microfibre is a very generic term, I have hundreds of 'microfibre cloths' for my work that do different things, and therefore look and feel totally different. Glass cloths, drying towels, buffing cloths, etc. Some can leave fibres first use, others don't - still all microfibre though ;)
 
steve, the glass on the front should be pretty sturdy
but to help with this sort of thing I put a UV filter on the front which I can clean really easily or remove if I'm doing something that requires the best quality from the lens. studio stuff for example.
Out on the quayside, then you might often get stuck in a bit of wind and rain!

Never been a fan of those type of kits.

Big fan of the lenspen, never had an issue and have not found anything that it canlt easily clean.

OK, point taken, maybe what I SHOULD have said was 'all microfibre cloths made to clean lenses' should not leave fibres! :thumbs: pretty useless otherwise!
Why anyone would use cloths NOT made specificly for lenses is beyond me!
