Just spent most of the morning cleaning len's, and the contact's with the old eraser, not sure if it's me but they do focus quicker :shrug:????? after cleaning the contacts and the glass, cleaned the filters which have been done with a micro fiber blue cloth.

how often do you clean yours if you have any tips of tricks i will be glad to here

Tip 1, i sent this into photo plus ?

To clean you len's hood, the felt kind on the inner part of the hood just a roll of sticky tape wrapped round your fingers sticky side out and dab all the way round the dust comer's right off.

Method for len's cleaning if you know a better please tell.

1, good blow:naughty:
2, len's cleaning cloth
3, small drop of fluid
4, start in the center and a circular motion to the outside edge.
5, blow the back of len's
6, clean contacts with rubber (masking sure none goes onto the rear len's) then blow off ...refit or re fit cap

repeat on all len's

if anyone has a way of cleaning the rear that would help.

regards mark.

Here?

FWIW... I never clean them seriously and use wind and a mircrofibre only. I do have a mark on the 'camera side lens (element?)' of my 24-70, but haven't bothered cleaning it as I don't seem to notice it on shots.

Be very carefull when using a rubber to clean contacts as some are abrasive and will remove the contact's coatings over a period of time and can / will cause issue's, just use a cloth and some isopropanol (alcohol).

Call me an ignoranus, but why would you need to clean the contacts? Mine aren't showing any signs of dirt, and if they were so dirty they needed a clean, I'd be thinking the lenses themselves would need a jetwash.

here Watch the video if it's good enough for professionals it's good enough for me

The clues in the response "Be very carefull when using a rubber to clean contacts as some are abrasive " and you wouldn't use sand paper to clean the contacts would you.

You can get oxidation on the contacts this can give the error 99 on a Canon body i believe.

Hi i here what your saying, but this is a sacrificial clean, the rubber wears away taking with it any bit's, all sacrificial cleaners , cutters, work in the same way, i clean the contact on my phone and hands free kit when the microphone stops working, i fill the contacts with pencil then rub the contacts, they will not wear away as they are solid copper, brass. gold????? even 24 caret gold connectors would take some eroding,

i see what your saying abrasive but this kind of cleaning i believe to be very safe, and as i would do it maybe twice per year safer still

regards mark.

Are you more prone to this if the camera (contacts) gets wet?

the green bits cause mayhem with connections and as L series len's are ok to work in the rain there could be some moisture evident on the connectors and build up over time.
