I know there've been all sorts of comments about the pros and cons of uv filters, but imo, it's a good starting point to protecting your lens and keeping it clean.

Another basic for me is trying not to change lenses in dusty, windy, wet or other unpleasant situations.

I suppose I try to keep my kit as clean as possible to save scary cleaning jobs.

I'm sure lots of peeps will have other suggestions. :)

Oh - and VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

One tip I picked up (can't remember where) is to always switch your camera off before changing lenses as supposedly some of the electronics can attract dust. Don't know if this is correct or not, but as it doesn't cost anything its worth keeping in mind...

I have a D80 too, for the lens I use a microfibre cloth, you can get them any camerashop or optician. I breath on lens and wipe it, I dont use chemicals.

For the body, mine is always muddy due to mine exploration photos and it comes up brand new with a slightly damp soft cloth.

Havent cleaned the sensor as the camera is so new.

Ah, that is a good reason, forgot that one... I'm always forgetting to turn it off ... and I'm always having to clean my sensor. :gag:
