My internet is running sooo slowly and I want to clear up but how do I do it in Firefox? Am I missing something obvious?
 
Don't worry, I've already got my settings pointed to Clear Private Data so it's not that?

Next question - anyone know what it could be? It's painfully slow on start up and sometimes just hangs there for a while, other times it's okay(ish)
 
Is it a long term thing or a few days worth? if it's not been long it might just be a problem with your isp or the lines somewhere.

Failing that, I've had similar problems in the past both with the internet and programs, windows seems to collect useless crap like fluff on velcro. It can be worthwhile just reformating and starting fresh (after backing up your important stuff of course).
 
Cheers Steep, it's been a week or so - I might give it a defrag, I think it's due for one anyway and see if that helps.

CCleaner. It's free and gets rid of all sort of junk.

Go to Start / Run / type in "msconfig" without the quotes / OK , then Start Up tab.

Untick everything that you don't need at Startup (just about everything except malware protection and your firewall)
