Captured hand-held last night using Panasonic G5 with Raynox 250 on 45-175 lens, and KX800 twin flash with shallow hybrid diffusers and a concave diffuser.

All the shots used the G5's rather slow 1/160 max flash sync speed, f/22 and ISO 250.

The images were batch processed in DXO Optics Pro and individually adjusted in Lightroom.

Very nice macro set indeed, the last shot I like very much.(y)

Were these out in the open or did you hunt under things ? Like the details in the earwig.

Thanks Chris. They were out in the open. (I never turn things over.) Unlike during the day, when I shoot at night I often find earwigs and woodlice out in the open - at least until I start shooting. They don't like the flash and often scuttle off after a couple of shots.

It's a good time to see active snails and slugs too, and they don't react to the flash and carry on doing what they are doing, so I often get plenty of time with them. During the day I don't see either much (or if I see snails, they are usually inside their shells), and the ones I notice during the day are fairly large. At night I've seen and photographed a lot of much smaller ones.

Last shot is the best, I've not seen any earwigs here yet.

I bloody hate earwigs. Detestable they are. Eat your brains out after sneaking in through your ear while you sleep....

:) ;)

Great pics though buddy...

Paul

Yes, and not only that, either!! Oh.. and just what have the earwigs ever done for us, eh?! :D

Really nice shots Nick my favourite is the last one too
I see what you mean about the snail a real shame that it's eyes are not quite in focus but not possible to get that much depth of field I guess
