close up set for a nifty

Thinking about getting some for my newly acquired 50mm for macro work, so are they any good?

What do you mean by "close up set"?

Do you mean the likes if a raynox close up adaptor lens? If so then yes, they are very good! And they do work well on the nifty.

Probably refering to something more like these they work but quality isn't great its just like shooting through a magnifying glass.

Not really. Get a Raynox DCR-250 or 150 depending on how close you want to go (£40 - Amazon). Or a set of extension tubes, eg Kenko or similar, not the cheap manual ones.

Either way, best image quality at f/8 or higher.

Agree. I use the raynox dcr 250 on my 50 and 55-250 lenses, it's very good indeed.

Why not get a set of extension tubes, they're dirt cheap on the bay.

A set of close up lenses WILL work quite well on your nifty fifty AND on your kit lens.

They are dirt cheap but the quality of the sets on Ebay aren't too consistent - on the other hand for about a tenner you can't really lose and they will allow you to see if macro is your thing.

But the best bet is a set of Kenko DG AF extension tubes which allow you to keep all the auto functions of your camera - the cheap extension tubes on Ebay may NOT be fully automatic.

The good thing about extension tubes is that you can use them on your kit lens as well as the Nifty.
