Saw these for around a tenner. Any good? Are they worth it?

I know they're not going to match up to proper lenses but will they add a bit more variation for a beginer?

If I had £350 I wouldn't be asking! :p

Close-up lenses work far better than you might expect for the price, real bargains TBH, but getting +10 diopters out of a single piece of glass is asking too much.

Spend a bit more and get a Ranyox DCR-250 - still only £40 from Amazon. Same idea, but a +8 diopter coated triplet lens

Thanks mate. So whats special about this piece of kit? I know nothing about diopters or triplet lenses.

It's this lil fella http://www.amazon.co.uk/Raynox-RADCR-0250-DCR-250/dp/B000A1SZ2Y Just a high quality close-up lens with a neat clip-on adapter that fits just about anything - works fine on lenses from about 50mm upwards.

The DCR-250 goes very close for bugs and stuff so if it's flowers or whatever you might be better off with the DCR-150 which is identical but only +5.8 diopters - and a few quid cheaper.

Edit: +5.8 dipoters is still pretty strong and will take you're focusing down to under six inches. Depending on what you want to do, maybe 3-4 diopters might be more suitable? For a tenner you could give those ebay cheapies a punt, just to see how you get on. But if you end up liking the high power combo, think about the Raynox then.
