After a fair wait the .co domains are available. I was tempted but 1and1 have just emailed to say they are £29.99 a year!!!

Expensive compared to .com @ £8.99ish.

So, are you going to sign up to what is apparently "the next big thing" or not?

I'd leave it for a bit, until people get used to them (if they catch on!). I predict lots and lots of people will add the '.uk' afterwards as a habit and not find the site they're after!

I agree with the above - they wont increase global coverage anyway, as its not the suffix or domain level which determines placement on search engines, but rather optimisation and content.

Aha. Cheers Tom. Still to north of the border for me...

It does allegedly make a difference... .co.uk domains won't rank highly on the US Google (.com), and .us don't rank highly in the google.co.uk searches

.com is a global domain and not (as sometimes thought) USA based.

The google weighting algorithm for search results is very complex, with the above being just one small factor of 200 or so when it comes to their organic search results.

Server location is also a big factor, according to some :)

I would be worried about people thinking its .co.uk and going to a competitor as above.
