nice shot...whats that on the tree? is it fat....

yes mark they put fat on the trees to attract the woodpeckes closer to the hide but they keep their distance at the far end so the little guys make the most of it
 
Cracking shot - the detail and colours in the feather are wonderful. Must have a try with slices of fat ball and see what I can get :thinking:

Excellent way to attract woodpeckers and many other birds, but there are more discreet ways of "baiting" the trees ;)

haha agreed. Was taken in a woodland hide that is looked after by the rangers. The woodpeckers have there very own post with holes drilled into it filled with goodies.:thinking: i wonder if that tree is where they wipe the stuff of their hands lol
