Probably a stupid question but I have recently found all the old a-type Cokin filter system bits I used to have on my old film slr, having looked on Cokin's site they don't seem to recommend them for digital slrs but on some others it just says it's ok for certain size of lenses.Does this mean it's unsuitable for wide-angle and zooms/teles but ok for smaller fixed focal length lenses?

If the adapter ring fits your lens then you can use the A system, I do :). Check for vignetting but you should be OK.

I'm not sure why Cokin do not recommend the A system for DSLRs but it is probably that the P system has a wider range of adapter rings which suit more lenses.

Just had a quick look - The A system goes from 36mm-62mm filter thread and the P system goes from 28mm - 82mm filter thread.

I would do a few test shoots to determine how wide you can go with the filters. I have the P series and although it says it covers 28mm-82mm on my 17-55 lens (77mm) I can see the filter in the pic when it's wide open (17mm). It's not hard to fix I just move to around 18mm and that does the trick.

Thanks for the replies,I'll get the right size fitting ring and give it a go:thumbs:
