cokin A series

You would need the p series, the chances are the adapter gets in the way at the edge of the lens. Take a look here.
 
if you want to use just one you could stick it on with a couple of blobs of blutack - but tbh the A series are a bit of a waste of time - its better to collect the Ps or even wider ones from lee as you can afford them
 
Well my birthday is coming up so I might ask the Mrs to get me some lee filters.

The only thing is I can't can't imagine paying the price lee want for (pieces of glass)
 
If price is an issue, check out Hitech filters.

When I changed from film to digital, I needed to upgrade my filters as I had the A-type for my film lenses. I wasn't happy with the magenta cast from them, so looked around the net and the Hitechs got good reviews. I bought the soft edged ND grad set and the full ND set, and have been happy with them.

There are two sizes 85mm and 100mm; the 85mm is very close to Cokin P size and you can use the e-bay holders.

They are resin actually.. Well the ND grads are anyhow.
Keep any eye on ebay, bargains come up. I just got a foundation kit, 77mm adapter and ND soft grad set for £150.
RRP is over £200 for the filter set alone, if you can find stock anywhere.
 
another top tip is with a cokin p holder (or any square holder for that matter) is to use a hacksaw to carefully cut off one set of slots as its rare to need to put more than 2 filters on and this helps stop edges showing up in wide angle shots
