hi folks i'm looking at the cokin gnd filters and am not sure which size/series to go for. would the p series be ok on 17mm on a 5dii (fill frame) without any vigneting or am i going to have to go for the more expensive larger z or x series...

It really depends on the lens size. I was told that anything over about 70mm in circumference would suffer from vignetting if using the P series.

My largest lens is 82mm so I opted for the Z Pro series and have found them to be excellent. There is an added bonus that the new Hitech 100mm 10 stop ND fits the Z Pro exactly as do most, if not all Lee filters.

One word of warning tho. I ordered my kit in early May and they arrived mid December!! This was mainly due to Tokina taking over Cokin but even so. Amazon have the Z Pro ND starter kit advertised but this is from France and no guarantee that it is in stock.

Might struggle with a 17mm lens, I've used P series on a 19mm with 77mm thread and a modified filter holder ok though.
 
I get slight vignetting at the widest setting on my 10-20mm (77mm) and none on my 17-55mm (also 77mm).

If cost is an issue then the P series will be great 95% of the time. If you can find the extra dough I'd go for the larger ones - I would if I had the money :thumbs:
